O sweet Grace

O sweet Grace

You removed Your God-sandals and entered my lonely heart!
Broke the lock.  Unlatched the hooks and chains.

Rain-soaked, You appeared at the door of my room;
whispered my name –

the one You first knew me by.
I heard You with all my heart.

O sweet Grace, just an inkling of Your bounty
and my shallow vessel overflows!

You know well my heart, Lord.
You’ve been there before –

the light that follows You
flooding its dark chambers with beauty.

O child of God, on the threshold, look:  His holy sandals!
Search your barren house for the long-awaited Beloved One.
