The unraveling of an elephant

The unraveling of an elephant

What was called by Shelley
this painted veil.

And remember the unraveling of an elephant
by Eruch at Baba's instruction?

I've always wondered if the lesson ended
before the tapestry was completely ruined

or did He let everyone see
the practical price that must be paid,

obliteration the key element of the example -
what is left when the self comes apart;

when illusion is exposed, truth unveiled,
ruin and destruction critical, inherent

in those daubs of paint,
those interwoven threads

which make up the trembling figures
on our shimmery, flimsy veils.

O child of God, you fear the Nothingness
which (claims Meher) contains the Everything.
